Our first mayor must be ready on day one.

As a former C.E.O of two organizations, former prosecutor and assistant attorney general, executive recruiter, family advocate and longtime Cleveland Heights resident, Barbara Danforth is the only candidate with the leadership and experience we need on day one.

CEO, Summit Academy Management Company

I led a non-profit company that provides highly effective educational services for children with diverse learning styles as a result of ADHD, ADD, and Autism Spectrum Disorders.  The 24 schools throughout Ohio provide K-12 education with a staff of 1,000 and a budget of $62M.  In addition to managing personnel, union issues, compliance, finance and budgeting, I reviewed systems for process improvements to ensure that every funded dollar was used effectively for our students.

CEO, YWCA of Greater Cleveland

With a dedicated team, we went to work and renovated our childcare facilities, improved the quality of our services for women and refocused our attention on our mission of eliminating racism and empowering women.  I led the staff in the development of the Women’s Leadership Academy, which was designed to enhance the career progression of female leaders and generated significant earned income for the YWCA.

My final project was the build-out of 22 single occupancy rooms and provision of wrap-around services for teens aging out of foster care.  The Cleveland YWCA grew, prospered and became a nationally recognized model association.

Chief Counsel, Cuyahoga County Department of Children and Family Services

I provided legal counsel to the Director and managed a staff of 30 lawyers and support professionals.  Together, we made the often difficult decisions about the best interests of children in the care or custody of Cuyahoga County.

Chief Prosecutor, City of Cleveland

I managed a staff of 18 attorneys and mediators as we made decisions about prosecuting criminal matters on behalf of  the citizens of Cleveland. I advised Mayor Michael R. White on criminal issues and police “use of force” cases.

Assistant Attorney General, State of Iowa

I worked with the State Attorney General, as a trial lawyer, defending State agencies and institutions, including the University of Iowa.

Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) for Cuyahoga County Department   of Children and Family Services

I monitor a family that is under the protective supervision of Children and Family Services to ensure that the children’s educational, medical and other needs are being met. I advocate for these children and report my observations to Juvenile Court.
